  1. Even the cover of Jack McDuff's "Soulful Drums" is curiously restrained, with some odd arrhythmic playing by Muhammad in counterpoint with Virgil Jones' trumpet and Clarence Thomas' soprano sax. Black Rhythm Revolution is not a bad album at all; in fact, most of the tracks are good to great, with the lengthy bookends "By the Red Sea" and "Wander" both featuring memorable grooves and tight, 6/

This is one very impressive and very interesting CD, a 2-for-1 set that includes two studio albums that Idris Muhammad released in If you are familiar with any of the other albums by Idris, especially the mighty fine "Power of Soul," these two albums are in a similar vein, fusing R&B sounds with Jazz and even some world music rhythms too/5(12).

Black Rhythm Revolution, LP (£) An all-star, BGP 2-fer. ldris Muhammad??s drum-led albums for Prestige in the early 70s are a fine synthesis of the disparate elements that went into the era's R&B/Soul/Jazz experimentation and an indication of the many changes that were to occur in Black Music generally over the immediate years following.
