  2. Slow-core group Low brings us their 3rd album The Curtain Hits the Cast. Preferring the term minimalist (but do not confuse this with the contemporary classical genre minimalism) for their sparse use of instrumentation and vocals, we get songs for a hot summer afternoon/5(18).

  3. The Curtain Hits The Cast is one of those ahead-of-its-time masterpieces that opens up like a ten year old bordeaux - slowly and intoxicatingly. With each track that seemingly drifts in and out of existence, Low's tailored minimalism hangs like a haze over the listener, lulling them inward, inside themselves, to the place where all their fears and joys reside.

  4. The Curtain Hits the Cast comes at the tail-end of my favorite era of Low's fantastic career -- that is, the early years they spent on the late, great neo-psychedelic label Vernon Yard Recordings. While they've never put out a bad album, and I appreciate all of their eras, Low's first three LPs and the Transmission EP are all stone-cold classics/5(14).

  7. "Over the Ocean," a single drawn from The Curtain Hits the Cast, also became something of a hit on college radio. By the time of their next full-length album ('s Secret Name) Low had moved to the independent label Kranky. In between, they released several singles and EPs.
